OBITUARY ---------------AUGUSTA A. THURBER
San Mateo Co Times and Gazette
December 20, 1890
Mrs. Augusta A. Thurber died last Tuesday at her residence at the age of sixty-nine years and four months. She had been a resident of this city for thirty-five years, was one of the original members of the Congregational Church and had been identified with many movements for the betterment of the town. Dearly beloved by all, kind, cheerful and one of God’s own women, her death will be generally regretted. She was born in Maine and the family traces their history back to the landing of the Pilgrims, Her husband J. A. Thurber, and her sister, Mrs. Lois Kettredge of Pasadena survive her. Both are present at the house of mourning. Mr. and Mrs. Thurber had charge of the old American House previous to its burning.
The funeral took place at the Congregational Church on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. H.E. Jewett of Vacaville who officiated made an eloquent address. He was for many years pastor of the church and knew Mrs. Thurber intimately.
Mr. Jewett stated that at Mrs. Thurber’s was his first home in California and for many years after leaving it, it was open to him.
The pallbearers were: Messrs Rankin, Hilton, Kellogg, D. Sampson, Holder, Fox, and Cooper. The interment was in Union Cemetery.
