OBITUARY ---------------MISS NELLIE CLOUD
Redwood City Democrat
Jan 18, 1900
To Her Longed-For home
Miss Nellie Cloud passes to her last long sleep. In this city January 15, 1900 Nellie A., daughter of Mary I L and sister of George E., Charles McF, and Roy W. Cloud, a native of Elko Nevada, Aged 30 years, 2 months, and five days.
Last Monday at the early dawn, the weary heart grew fainter and the earthly journey was over. Miss Cloud entered upon life’s pilgrimage November 10, 1869 at Elko Nevada. However her childhood was spent in this city, from which school she was graduated with honors and in possession of a Teacher’s certificate.
Desirous of widening her mental horizon, she pursued a course of study for a semester at Stanford University. This was followed by a season of teaching at Pilarcitos, but soon after the call come from the school which nursed her and for six years she faithfully served the Redwood City School Department. The approach of final sickness compelled her to lay down her life’s task. In an effort to regain health she visited Auburn and Pacific Grove but all in vain-the resistless disease encroached more and more until too weak to hold the pilgrim staff she said, “I am tired; 1 want to go home”. A few more moments the weary body was at rest and the soul took flight to the longed-for home. Amidst all the distress which made the body weak and sink her faith grew stronger and sublime, rose higher until reaching the climax in an outburst of prayerful testimony to God’s goodness and his unspeakable Love. Her faith has stood the final proof and her liberated soul has realized its vision passing into the hills of eternfty, that home where never a sorrow or pain shall dim the eyes with tears. Miss Cloud was a faithful member of the Congregational Church and D. E. Society, and words can poorly express the loss we feel when God said to our sister, “It is enough; well donc. Come up higher.” To the dear mother and brothers we extend our deepest sympathy and commend them to the loving father whose promise of peace are sure to those who put their trnst in Him. Sleep on, Beloved, sleep and take thy rest Lay down thy head upon the Savior’s breast We love thee will, but Jesus loves you best Good night The funeral will take place from the Congregational Church this afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment at Union Cemetery. FHM “PaPa will be with you soon.” Lot 205
