OBITUARY ---------------JOHN CHRIST
San Mateo Times and Daily News Leader
Feb 13, 1933
Redwood City today paid last respects to one of its earliest peace officers, John Christ, 94, former city marshal and resident of Redwood City for nearly half a century, who died Friday night at his home in Kenwood, Sonoma county.
A native of Germany, Christ came to Redwood City in 1866. He was a city marshal for a number of years and was also engaged in the feed and fuel business. He left the county seat about ten years ago to live with his son-in-law, the Rev. L. D. Rathbone, former pastor of the Redwood City Congregational church. Mrs. Rathbone, his daughter, died several years ago.
Christ is survived by his widow, Mrs. Theresa Christ of Kenwood, and two children, George Christ of Redwood City and Mrs. Harry Brace of San Francisco.
Funeral services under the auspices of the Redwood City Odd Fellows, of which Christ was a charter member, were held from the James Crowe & Co. chapel, with interment following at Union Cemetery.
