James Bicknell Ayres well known Redwood City man, passed away at the Peninsula Hospital in Palo Alto, Friday afternoon following a short illness. Death was caused by pneumonia.
Ayres was the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Charles Ayres, pioneer residents of Redwood City. The father built and conducted for many years The Tremont House on Main Street, one of the first hotels erected here. The property was sold last year and the building was razed.
The deceased was born in Redwood and made his home here practically all his life, the last seven years at the Hotel De Redwood on Main Street. He was 42 years of age. The funeral was held on Sunday from the chapel of the James Crowe Co. Rev Thomas of St. Peters Episcopal Church, conducted the services. Interment was in the family plot in Union Cemetery.
